We assisted Momentum South Africa with one of the largest high-end virtual reality deployments in African history: synchronizing 20 simultaneous HTC Vive systems in the same room. Momentum was launching their prestigious brand partnership with Saray Khumalo — the historic Zambia-born South African mountaineer who in May 2019 became the first black African woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
As part of the media launch, key journalists and editors were invited to step into the boots of an Everest climber. As guests navigated crevasses, crossed narrow ladders, and stood at the rooftop of the world in VR, Saray Khumalo personally narrated the experience and shared her heroic real-world expedition insights.
Operating 21 high-end PC VR rigs simultaneously in an open hall required overcoming monumental radio and optical tracking challenges — cementing Virtual Reality South Africa as technical leaders in large-scale experiential engineering.

The HTC Vive system utilizes “outside-in” infrared Lighthouse tracking. Standard base stations are designed for a maximum of 2 units within a 5 × 5 meter area. Running 20+ Vive systems in one open space poses severe tracking disruption due to infrared laser reflections.
Spatial Innovation: We designed a custom modular partition architecture with strategic IR baffles, matte light-absorbing surfaces, and physical climbing props that completely isolated each tracking zone.
